The WA-ACNM Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity committee has a mission to uphold one of ACNM’s 5 core commitments; Diversification and Inclusion. We aim to promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity within our affiliate's efforts to achieve the ACNM’s mission and core values. As a committee we plan to utilize our awareness of historical discrimination within midwifery to guide our data analysis, efforts to raise awareness, engage our stakeholders, and promote evidenced based research proven to reduce implicit bias, and thus disparities, within sexual and reproductive health. We will strive to cultivate a safe equitable, and inclusive culture within the the profession of midwifery and the communities we serve by increasing the number of midwives from underrepresented groups and equipping ACNM members to understand the dynamics of oppression, privilege, and inequity. We will simultaneously advocate for a culturally sensitive approach within midwifery, maintaining a humble curiosity about our patients’ and the experiences that influence them, as we partner with them to promote their health.
