Midwifery Spotlight January 2019
Empowered Pregnancy is a CNM-owned and operated Birth Center and Women’s Wellness Clinic with grand opening May 9, 2019. Located across the street from Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, our CNMs will provide client focused, family centric care and educational services to produce optimal outcomes for both mother and child. The birth center will be a freestanding, out-of-hospital, facility that caters to women with minimal risk pregnancies that fit the midwifery model of care. Our comprehensive services will also include routine and problem GYN care, contraceptive management and limited primary care. Clients can take advantage of our relationships with holistic and alternative medicine providers, allowing the clinic to be a one stop shop for women's health care, nutrition counseling and community education, in addition to pregnancy and birth.
Kim Johansen, Empowered Pregnancy owner, has been in maternal and child health for more than 20 years. She worked as a nurse in the NICU and L&D before becoming a CNM in 2004. She has always been passionate about education and women's health, with a lifelong dream of opening a wellness center where women could have all their healthcare needs met in a compassionate manner by competent providers. Along with Roxanne Spring--CNM of Snoqualmie Valley Midwifery and Women's Health--and a team of doulas, Kim is excited to be bringing this service to Kirkland.
This unique center will provide the women of King and Snohomish counties with a safe alternative to institutionalized childbirth. We will provide education, support and encourage active participation in the health care process to promote self-empowerment to all our clients and their families. Our goal is to encourage healthy life choices that prevent disease processes before and during pregnancy and empower women to continue with these choices throughout their lives.
