Northwest OBGYN is a group of medical professionals including physicians, nurse-practitioners, and physician assistants who provide comprehensive women’s health care from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
Shelley Northern CNM ARNP has been providing midwifery care at NW OB-GYN since 2010. Shelley graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1994 and worked as a labor and delivery nurse in the Puget Sound area before completing her graduate work in midwifery at the University of Washington in 2008. Shelley is originally from Mt. Vernon but has lived in Spokane for the past eleven years along with her husband Tim Northern who teaches middle school science and math, and their three children Amelia, Ellie and Charlie. When she is not catching babies, she stays pretty busy with family activities and Pinterest!
Shelley is currently the only nurse-midwife at NW OB-GYN. In addition, Shelley is also the only CNM that delivers babies at Sacred Heart Medical Center, the largest hospital in the Spokane area. However the clinic is quickly moving forward to expand the nurse-midwifery service to include 3 CNMs in an effort to meet the demands for full-scope midwifery care in the Inland NW. It is a very exciting time for Shelley to see the fruits of her labor manifest into a full midwifery service including twenty four hour seven days a week midwifery coverage. She greatly appreciates the backing of the physicians in her clinic that are supporting this meaningful endeavor 100%.
