Relationship between the choice of birthsite and the type of care provider
Birthsite and the type of the midwives are related, but not synonimous. There are two distinct types of midwives in WA state: Cerntified Nurse-Midwives, and Licensed Midwives.
Certified Nurse-Midwives are educated in Nursing, licensed as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in state of Washington, and the majority of us have graduate education with Master's degree. Certified Nurse-Midwives provide care in various settings. Most of us provide care and attend births in the hospital settings. Some of us provide care in homes and birthcenters, also.
Licensed Midwives do not require Nursing education, and they come from various educational preparations. Some of the Licensed Midwives have additional certification called Certified Professional Midwife. Most of the Licensed Midwives provide care at homes and birth centers. There are a few Licensed Midwives who attend births in the hospital settings, also.
